Game lists

In the course of working for the project formerly, and tentatively still, called C.A.V.E. (Computer And Videogame Entertainment), I collected various information on console and computer games. With this database, I was not trying to compete with any of the existing big game databases such as MobyGames, The Legacy, or UVL, but to fill a blank. I was personally interested in having a database that provides information about the content of games – themes, scenarios, keywords, et cetera. This was at first just a list of games with associated themes and keywords (tags) that allowed to not only classify games by genre, but also by the style of their content, similar to movie genres. Hence, a game is categorised both by the type of its interactivity (game genre, game type) as well as the type of its scenario and story (themes, story and scenario keywords).

After a while I also started adding some basic facts and technical info about the games, just to make it easier to find and browse them. But it does in no way offer the amount of technical specification, release information, or developer credits that other databases provide, nor does it try to.

For the systems that have already been covered on this site, I will provide direct XML exports of the respective game lists. As they are “direct” exports, I did not go through any trouble to try and clean them up, and they may contain columns that are personal to me, and of no use whatsoever to people other than myself. I intend to make the contained information available for free to anyone who thinks there might be any use for it, but until I have decided on a suitable license, “all rights are reserved.”
